Pimp Wars

Heads up: this one's the crude one. Pimp Wars is a 1994 door about running girls, dealing, and shooting up rivals, and it talks the way a shareware door from 1994 talked — sex, drugs, and jokes that landed differently thirty years ago. It's here because it was on the board and people asked for it, not because it aged well. If that's not your thing, the rest of the door menu is friendlier.

This is the real DOS program — Pimp Wars v1.41 by Ahpah Software, running in an emulator right in the window below. And it's one shared world, like the old board: every caller's pimp lives on the same street. Check the Player Rankings, Examine the competition, Steal from them, or firebomb their house — and wear the consequences next time you call. The door reads your name off the board's login, so your pimp is yours. One caller at a time gets the line; if it's busy, the board redials for you. Want it full-size? Open Pimp Wars on its own page.

How to play

It's a numbers game: buy girls, work them, spend on protection, and bank the take before somebody else takes it. All keyboard, so it's best on a computer.

  1. Press the play button, answer Y to the ANSI graphics question and Y to "would you like to play". At Enter your Pimp Name, just press Enter to use your board handle — that's how you get the same pimp back every visit.
  2. You start with a little cash and a lot of debt. Head to [B] Buy a Whore and pick up a girl or two, then [W] Work them to bring in money. Press ? at any prompt for the full command list, or O for the manual.
  3. Spend on protection and upgrades before you get fat and obvious. Cash sitting on you is cash somebody can take.
  4. The multiplayer is on the same menu: [P] Player Rankings to see where you stand, [E] Examine Another Pimp to size someone up, and [T] Steal or [F] Firebomb to take a run at them. They'll find out when they call back.
  5. [Q] quits the door and hands the line back. Your turn is over for the day, so come back tomorrow — same as it ever was.
